Clara Lundgrens sculpture depicts a black human heart

The sculpture depicts a black human heart with a dark, matte surface. On one side of the heart, there is an opening, inviting viewers to peer inside.
As one looks through this opening, they discover an unexpected and surreal interior. The bottom half of the heart’s cavity is filled with silicone, creating the illusion of a still, glassy pool within the organ.
Floating atop this silicone surface are delicate, miniature water lilies made of ceramic. These tiny pink blossoms are meticulously crafted, their petals open as if basking in an unseen sun. The lilies are arranged to resemble a serene, miniature lake nestled inside the heart.
This juxtaposition of the dark, imposing exterior with the fragile, pastel-colored flora within creates a powerful visual metaphor. It suggests hidden depths, inner beauty and the contrast between outward appearance and inner life. The sculpture invites contemplation on themes of vulnerability, resilience, and the complex nature of human emotions.
